DESCRIPTION:Workshop: “Virtual experience for the five senses: touch\, smell and taste the black truffle of Teruel”\n\n\nSunday\, March 28\n\nStarting at 17:00 \n\nThe Association of Truffle Growers and Collectors of the Province of Teruel in collaboration with the Teruel Tourism Business Association\, present a virtual activity aimed at all those who love gastronomy\, willing to live a sensory experience with the Black Truffle as the protagonist. The event took place on March 11 as the culmination of a truffle season marked by restrictions in hotel establishments\, which have made it impossible to carry out the traditional Gastronomic Days held in bars and restaurants in the province of Teruel. In this appointment coordinated by the Imaginative Connection company\, 200 people from 10 Spanish provinces and 3 German states signed up to enjoy the most precious treasure of Teruel gastronomy.\nEach participant received at home an experiential kit that included about 40 grams of Teruel Black Truffle (Tuber melanosporum)\, a card with instructions to follow the tasting correctly and four recipes to make with Truffle. Lina Soler\, truffle producer and member of the first Truffle Tasting Panel created in the world\, was the expert person in charge of directing the tasting and explaining the organoleptic aspects of this gastronomic treasure. \nThey intervene:\nLina Soler\, Tasting director. After a general introduction\, I will briefly present our knowledge of the sexual reproduction of the black truffle\, and then I will highlight the main results of the CulturTruf national research program. In this project we have experimented with truffle irrigation by controlling soil water potential (pF) and we have shown that this improves truffle production. I will show how we have developed an innovation (pF Tracer) that allows truffle growers to equip themselves with probes to follow the pF. It is celebrated every year in December in the Teruel town of Sarrión and is organized by the Sarrión City Council\, with the collaboration of other public administrations\, financial entities and associations of the sector. The organization of this monographic fair on truffles in Sarrión does not respond to an arbitrary fact\, but is due to the fact that this town\, located in the Sierra de Javalambre\, meets\, according to the experts\, one of the best conditions in Europe for the cultivation of this precious mushroom. Therefore\, FITRUF was born\, as a professional\, sectorial and monographic fair\, mainly aimed at professionals in the sector. It should be noted that\, in parallel to the Fair\, every year a series of conferences is organized\, exclusively for professionals in the sector\, which edition after edition enjoy great acceptance among attendees\, both for the quality of the talks and for the preparation of the speakers. Under current and projected climate change\, the truffle sector\, however\, also requires advanced irrigation systems to reduce the risk of drought-induced fluctuations in their annual winter harvests. Understanding the direct and indirect effects of a warmer and drier world on local farmers and international enterprises is fundamental to refine adaptation strategies and decision-making at relevant ecological\, socio-political and economic scales. In addition to the threat of anthropogenic climate change\, I will also discuss the impact of the current coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19)\, which hits the truffle sector at an unprecedented rate. DESCRIPTION:Scientific Seminar: “Advances in the knowledge of truffles and truffle farming.” \n\n\nSaturday 27 February\n\n10:00 h.\nPresentation \nAccess the event 10:00h\n  \n\n10:15 h.\nMultifunctional truffle farming: the Tubersystems project\n Dr. Xavier Parladé \, Agrifood Research and Technology Institute (IRTA) \nThe Tubersystems project \, funded by the State Research Agency and the European Union within the Society Challenges program\, its main objective is to implement a multifunctional truffle farming based on the knowledge of the biology of the truffle and its interactions with other organisms. To address this objective\, extensive soil sampling has been carried out throughout the black truffle distribution area in Spain\, both in plantations and in areas of natural wild distribution. Soil samples have been subjected to different types of physicochemical and biological analysis to evaluate the persistence of the truffle mycelium and the fungal communities associated with the ‘burned’ or areas devoid of vegetation where the mycelium of the fungus develops. In a second phase of the project\, beneficial microorganisms (arbuscular fungi and rhizospheric bacteria) have been isolated for use in improving the growth and mycorrhization of holm oak and complementary cultures of aromatic plants. More information in www.tubersystems.com \nAccess the event 10:15h\n  \n\n11:00 h.\nThe Tuber aestivum could shift the Tuber melanosporum to young truffle plantations in a context of climate change?\n Yasmin Piñuela \, Center of Science and Forest Technology of Catalonia (FTFC) and University of Lleida (UdL) \nThe black truffle (Tuber melanosporum Vittad.) and the summer truffle (Tuber aestivum Vittad.) are two of the most appreciated edible fungi worldwide. The natural distributions of both species partially overlap. However\, the interspecific interactions between these truffles and how irrigation and mulching techniques impact the dynamics between them are still unknown. Here\, an experimental truffle plantation with Quercus ilex was established in Maials (Catalonia\, Spain)\, combining three soil mulch treatments (white mulch\, black mulch and bare soil as a control) and two irrigation regimes (irrigated and non-irrigated as a control) to investigate truffle mycelial dynamics in soil when both truffle species co-occur. The development of truffle mycelium in two different seasons (spring and autumn) in two consecutive years (2017 and 2018) was quantified using qPCR. Truffle mycelia of both species showed greatest development under white mulch. When mycelia of both truffle species co-occurred in soil\, irrigation combined with white mulch resulted in greater quantities of T. melanosporum mycelial biomass\, whereas the control irrigation treatment favoured the development of T. aestivum. Mulch treatments were also advantageous for seedling growth\, which was expressed as root collar diameter and its increment during the study period. Significant relationships between root collar diameter and root growth and the amount of mycelial biomass in the soil were observed for both truffle species. Our results indicate the potential advantages of using white mulch to support irrigation in truffle plantations located in areas with dry Mediterranean climatic conditions to promote the development of Tuber mycelium.
